SCIENCE ASSOCIATION

 Since its inception in 1954, the J. B. College Science Association has been steadily marching onwards with commendable Success To create an atmosphere, wherein students in general, and the science students in par- ticular, can develop a scientific outlook and an urge for scientific knowledge, the Asso- ciation has arranged from time to time, lectures and discussions on important problems of the modern scientific age. Thus the Association has not only been helping the students in acqui- ring informations on modern scientific topics, but also has given the students ample opportu- nities to have free discussions with eminent professors and scientific workers of different fields. Thus a personal contact is maintained as a result of which a student is sure to gain and has got nothing to lose.
 It is heartening to note that invariably in all the meetings organised, Professors of local colleges, scientific workers of different techni- cal, industrial and Research institutions have extended their co-operation. But the attendance of the students is far below our expectation. I would like to request them once more, ponder over the situation, to shake off their lethargy and to join the meetings in numbers,
 I am grateful to my student friends who elected me as the Secretary of the Association. I took over the charge in February 1958 and

the new Executive Body was formed with the following members :-

 (7) Shri Jitendra Nath Khound Joint Asst. Secretaries.
 (8) Shrimoti Jyotirmoyee Debi Joint Asst. Secretaries.
 Members from 1st and 3rd year classes havealso been taken.
 During the short period of my office, in- spite of many difficulties, I have arranged three lectures on three very important problems.The first meeting was held on the 7th March, 1958 where Principal H. N. Boruah of H. R. S. P. O. W. Institute of Engineering and Techno- logy, delivered a lecture on the "Engineering & Technological Projects in Assam and their development". Dr. D. N. Borua of Toklai Exptl. Station presided.

 The second sitting of the Association was held on the 19th July, 1958 with Sri D. N. Borbora of Toklai Exptl. Station on the chair. The subject before the house for discussion was, "Nature, sources and utilization of Assam Coal. The discussion was initiated by an enquiry made by Shri Satyaranjan Dutta of 4th year B.Sc. class.
