The king Nebuchadnezzar was always thinking of his vast empire, wealth and prosperity, which he acquired by powerful expeditions now and then. Whether the extensive empire of Babylon would be permanent or not was the only thought which troubled him much. One night when he went to bed, he was expecting to get a sure answer of it. He thought who could console him with the assurance that his descendants would go on reigning over the vast Babylonean Empire to an unlimited time.

When the king fell asleep he dreamt a wonderful dream. At day- break the king awoke from his sleep and unfortunately he forgot the dream completely, but his spirit was much troubled and perplexed.

Then the king commanded to call the magicians, the astrologers, the sorcerers and the Chaldeans to consult about the dream. At the command of the king they all came and stood before the king, because they claimed themselves that they had the power of interpreting visions and dreams. But, this time they fell in great difficulty which they had not met even once in their life time. The anxious king demanded of them the dream as well as its interpretation. Knowing not what to do they entreated the king to tell his dream, but the king said thus: "You tell me the dream then I will know your knowledge and capacity to interpret its meaning." What a serious task had been given to them! The king thought that if they could explain prophecy why not could they relate the dream. All failed to narrate the dream and its meaning. They told him that no human being could bring back the dream which had slipped once from one's memory. The king knew that it was their false pretention to make him forget the whole matter. So he passed an order that if they could tell the dream as well as its meaning they would be rewarded with gifts and honours but if they failed they would be cut into pieces and their houses would be reduced to ashes. It was a great miracle 110 doubt how they all escaped death. Daniel who was a staunch worshipper of true God, the Almighty Father, the God of Heaven and earth and the Universe saved those people of Babylon by his wonderful device.

When Daniel heard this sorrowful decree of death-sentence, he with his three companions was busy in deep meditation.

On the other hand king Nebuchadnezzar ordered to slay Daniel toge- ther with the other wise men of Babylon. But Daniel, in the strength of his deep and effective prayer, brought to light the lost dream and its signi-
