MANIK NEOG (4th Year, B.A.)

 (1) What should be the ideals of young men in life? The question I venture to put to the students generation of Assam. No three men will entirely agree as to the highest and the best in life which should firmly pursue. Individual temperaments and habits vary. One man may like "Bhoodan, another may despise the life of Binwoa Bhave and prefer the Marxism. There are, however, certain things which stir human intuition. There are certain achievements, which inspite of ourselves, we cannot help appreciating and admiring. Men who have made and unmade history and directed the fast drifting stream of democracy, these should be ideals. Because that would help us to understand the present state of affairs of ours.

(ii) History was taking strides. India was tortured by the British Rulers. The old structure is breaking but the new order is yet to be born. India seems to have shattered the chains of revolution, but the despotic powers of Pakistan turn the tide back by rendering the reaction that starts the strife. This is revolutionary Pakistan. The Government of Pakistan— has helped in the creation of the new pique but the master-mind has still to come, who can lead the pique to some concrete achievement. In this hour of crisis arises the world figure of Jawaharlal Nehru the man of destiny is with us. The greatest thing about Jawaharlal Nehru is his the power of acute observation itself. A few men of such insight and genius are a greater contribution to infant democracy than the countless knotty masses that burden the mother country. Do the achievements of the great man fill us with life and zeal.
