Cases have occurred, more than once, ni which Temple Pikes did refuse to perform service and in such cases it was formerly held that the pikes were liable to pay damages. But Colonel Agnew, the late Judicial Commissioner, Assam. subsequently decided that the Pikes should pay full rent only. A purchaser or transferee of Pikan lands belong- ing to a temple is liable to perform service to the Temple in the same manner as the original Pike. The Dalai can only claim the performance of the usual survice, or in failure thereof, the full amount of rent from such a person. Pikes having a hereditary right in lands held by them as such have also ransferable.ight in them. If a sub-tenant did not inform the superior land holder in the month of Magh, that he would not continue to cultivate, he would, of course, be liable for the rent for the ensuing year.
