[ ৫ ] great favour shown by the authorities to our poor mother Language, the Assamese. | (Sd.) MAL BHOG BORUA, 23rd september,। | (Hony. Magistrate). 1896 Proprietor of the Rajabheta Tea-Estate, | Dibrugarh (Assam). VII. This poetical book Jnyan-Malini written by Munshi Mofizuddin Ahmed Hazorika, a youth belonging to a very respectable Mahomedan family of Assam, is a novelty in Assamese literaturea novelty the charms of which challenge our sincere admiration. Each lesson of this book is a poetry of heart-felt pathos powerful from its sub- limity and effecting from its tenderness. There is not a word or image in Jnyan-Malini to disturb the placid tenor of sacred melancholy that pervades it, nor an idea or con- ception to break our dream of soft communion with some thing holy and far removed fron earth. | There are no poenis in Assamese that Lknow of, which are so thoroughly chaste and sweet, so rich in charms of poetry, and, therefore, none so well calculated to divert the taste of the play-going public and to effect its improvement in the way of high morality. I have no hesitation in declar- ing that it will revolutionize the existing style of pocni- writing in Assamese by giving it a healthy tone and moral vigour which it so much wants. | It is reasonally expected that the Director of Public Instruction, Assam, will be so good as to introduce this capital book in the higher classes of the Englisn and Verna- cular Schools in Assam.। | (Sa) JADURAM BORUA. | (Honorary Magistrate; sort of the late well-known Monirani Dewan of Assam).
