that the entire Ganga-Brahmaputra Valley has vast deposits of mineral oil under it. If it is rendered possible to discover these deposits, who knows, India's destiny would assume a totally new face.
Limestone constitutes an important phase of Assam's mineral resources. The natural reserves of limestones are in the Garo-hills and Khasia Jaintia hills. Since cement is extracted out of it so its importance can be easily guessed. The Central Government is keen on utilizing these resources. That is why it gave licenses to Messers Associated Cement Company Ltd. of Bombay and Messers Assam Cement Limited of Shillong to set up one cement factory in each of the above mentioned districts. They will add to the facilities of house-building, Dam-construction etc. when brought into being.
In addition to these mineral products Assam has fine potentials of Paper-industry, Jute-industry and Sugar-industry. Let us put our best in implementing these industries and utilizing the mineral resources. They would constitute a stable basis for our industry and enhance our fortune tenfold. For the implementation we want trained personnel and what is more an earnest desire to be trained. Now the indigenous people are the possessors de-jure while the outsiders, the possessors de-facto of these treasures. This state of affairs cannot be allowed to continue. Let us arrest it, let us stop it.
