My proposal in sustaucet is that the services of •ompetent scholars, wherever available, should be seemed to prepare series of volumes of 'Typical Selections, dealing with the chief Indian Vrisculars and illustrating the origin aunt development of both the language und the literature. 'The Selections will be male from Sources published and umpublished, and manuscript materials will l) utilised to the fullest extent losirable. 'The eneral plan of the volumes will be historical and critical, similar to that adopted for the Bengali Typical Selections, and | venture to entertain the hope that if the Selections are judiciously male, they will not only serve to illustrate linguistic and literary evolution, but will also help to illuminate many dark.orner of social, religious and administrative history. Each vclume will be furnished with an introduction, glossary, notes and appendices. The volumes, as they become ready, will be published by the University and will no doubt tend to enhance its re]putation as a true seat of learning. It is difficult to determine in advance the exact amount of honorarium which should be offered to each editor, as it must depend largely upoll the extent of the individual work; but it may be generally stated that the amount will ordinarily valry between Rs. 1,000 and Rs. 2,000.
