১১০ হেমচন্দ্ৰ বৰুৱাৰ জীৱন চৰিত half the seed defrays half the cost of transplantation and the paddy is reaped by his own persons. In the northern side, however, the general practice for Adhiars is to give half the produce to the owner of the land, who supplies half the seed but does not bear any part of the cost of the transplanting and reaping of the paddy, which are done for him by the Adhiars. The quantity of produce payable to the land holder by Adhias is ascertained by counting the sheaves of paddy or by measuring the grain after thrashing, which is done by the Adhiars who give one half to the landholder and keep the other half for themselves. the In no case do Adhiars pay rent of land let to them by the lessor who alone is res- ponsible for the payment of the same. Enhancement of rent should, in our opinion, be regulated by a general rule, that no sub-tenant should pay a higher rate than what is paid by other sub-tenants holding land of the same descrip- tion and productive power and situated in the same locality as his.
