The power of the Kolitas received a severe, blow by the introduction of the Kamrupi Brahmans by Visu, 'the grandson of Hajo, who chose them as his guides in religion; and the Kolitas were under the necessity of following the example of their prince, and of receiving instruction (upodes) from the sacred order. Still however, under the Brahmans, as I have said, they retain much power, and more than one of the princes of Vihar have rejected the Brahmans and chosen to return to the guidance of the ancient priesthood. These persons have now entirely adopted the Hindu worship and customs and are contended with being considered as pure Sudras......... They endeavour to pass themselves as Kayosthos and probably all the Barondro Kayosthos are of this origin."
